I love being a parent. I love being a nursing mother to the Snapper. I love being a full-time at-home mother. I love being the one who oversees every detail of his daily life, who knows that he has a sensitive scalp and that he loves being sung to (so much so that he will stop nursing to join in). Every day is different.
At two months the Snapper is smiling frequently, and just tonight, starting to laugh. He loves our faces best of all but will settle for having serious conversations with the fish on his swing or hilarious ones with the TV remote. He has excellent head control. When adults have conversations in his presence he moves his eyes from speaker to speaker. He can’t be bothered with tummy time but will make the corresponding movements on my shoulder. He hates transition, especially getting out of warm bath water. He’s the most active baby I’ve ever met, and whoever says newborns do nothing but sleep has not met my son: he’ll only consent to nap if wrapped up tight on my body. When he nurses voraciously he vocalizes pleasure. He grabs a handful of my shirt when nursing, which for some reason makes me melt and melt with love.
Nighttime is getting better. With the exception of a night or two a week, he’s been sleeping (in his carseat) from 10-3 and 4-7. Nursing still takes 45 minutes to an hour, unfortunately. But we’re all sleeping so I’ll take it.
The best parenting decision I’ve made so far is to start wearing him in earnest. I bought four yards of fabric on sale just to see if it would work for us and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I wear him in a front wrap cross. It’s completely hands free, even when doing heavy housework that requires bending down. He can face out in it, or in, and I can pull the fabric up over his head for extra support and to get him to calm down for a nap. I love being able to get things done. In the next week or two I’ll be resuming schoolwork. This carry is perfect because it frees both hands for typing and he’s high enough to clear the desk.
These are just parenting notes…I’m not blogging very seriously right now, though I hope to from time to time. Right now I’m blogging as a member of a community, which is good enough.
Congrats on your baby! I loved reading that you “wear” him in a wrap. I carried both of mine in a sling and thought I was the only one in the world (okay, Western world) who did that. Cheers! ~mm
He’s too cute! I can’t wait to meet him.
How beautiful!
Curious Girl is four-and-a-half now and still uses our sling several times a week–not nearly as often as we used to, of course, but it has definitely been the best baby gear ever.
I understand why you’re not blogging very seriously right now and that’s okay, but it’s so great to hear from you!
I’m glad to hear that your little guy is doing well. He’s such a cutie pie!
I used the Baby Bjorn carrier for Snuggle Bug but for the next child we adopt, I’d really like to try the wrap-around fabric instead. I suspect it would be more comfortable for the baby.
Thanks for sharing!
He has such wonderful smiling eyes. I am so tickled that you shared his picture and a few milestones with us. Doesn’t his laugh just turn you into a puddle?
Back when I had babies, the sling thing was unheard of here. Sage was attached to me via a snuggli carrier though, for many months. I remember how productive I felt, getting the dishes done while he was in that thing! (Despite its bulkiness).
Nat pretty much lived in the front wrap cross for about 9 months! The wrap is probably my number one “don’t parent without it” accessory.
