FWIW, I don't know if it's true, but according to some web sites, men *can* lactate! :)

I think it's not that much different than adoptive mothers inducing lactation -- they can't produce much, but produce some milk.

Hang in there! I have heard of lots of women who have to decide between showering and eating when caring for a new baby -- it's just a hectic time.

"should I do another load of dishes or have a snack? Take a walk or finally put on makeup? Read an essay or read to the Snapper?"

Snack.
Walk (weather permitting).
Read an academic essay TO the Snapper. Develop in him an ear keen for Irish poetry and a critical mind.
Know that lots of new moms skip showers some days, take their kids in with them on other days.
Always, always stay hydrated.

What beautiful pictures, and what a beautiful boy!

Have you ever read The Baby Whisperer? It is a great middle of the road perspective on child care (and especially teaching your child to sleep on their own without nursing there way there). She brings a balanced perspective between attachment style parenting and schedule style parenting. I just read it on the recommendation of a friend and have found a lot of useful information. The Sprout is sleeping much better, with much less help, after applying the principles.

It is no joke, parenting is HARD WORK!

I wish you wouldn't beat yourself up like you do. No matter how much help one has, no matter how much familial support is there, parenting is a struggle. It's HARD WORK. You are entitled to feel whatever it is you feel, without guilt!
Don't be so hard on yourself honey.

Those pictures are breath-takingly beautiful. I know you know how precious and lovely this time is, even though it is so, so difficult. I had a baby that wanted to nurse all the time too. Now he is in college and I treasure those memories, even though I was often at my wit's end. Ha Ha I still am often at my wit's end... You are doing it all right. Life is just hard and the more you love the harder you have to work to make things good. Maybe someone else will give you nursing advice - I just want to say he is beautiful and so are you and hang in there. Pretty soon you will be pulling your hair out for a different reason. My mother told me it will get better. I might get a little harder for a while but it will get better. I am still hanging on to that.
